The purpose of this student project (master thesis) is to contribute to the body of knowledge with innovative practices, guidelines, policies, which will help entrepreneurs leverage big data to better design social innovation.
Social Innovation is a great way for understanding and producing social good and change. A good working definition is the following: “A novel solution to a social problem that is more effective, efficient, sustainable, or just than existing solutions and for which the value created accrues primarily to society as a whole rather than private individuals”
The project will develop a state of the art about the role of big data for social good and social innovation by analysing prior empirical and theoretical knowledge, in order to:
(1) identify big data intelligence drivers, enablers, and barrier for successful social innovation
(2) understand how stakeholders like academia, industry, government, and society cooperate to achieve innovation for social good
(3) propose a set of metrics for the evaluation of the social impact of big data and innovation.
(4) develop and empirically test a framework of the above metrics to evaluate and enhance the impact of big data on social innovation
Depending on the kind of project (15 ECTS, or 30 ECTS, or 60 ECTS) and the number of students (one or two), the candidate(s) and the supervisor(s) will agree on which of the four steps above will be prioritized.
