    Project 1: Texas Hold'em Poker

The lecture notes, available here, provides most of the necessary detail to complete the project. Below is listed a good background article, followed by two papers presenting techniques for opponent modelling.

    • The Challenge of Poker
Darse Billings, Aaron Davidson, Jonathan Schaeffer, and Duane Szafron, Artificial Intelligence Journal, vol. 134, pp. 201-240, 2002.
    • Opponent Modeling in Poker
Darse Billings, Denis Papp, Jonathan Schaeffer, and Duane Szafron, Proceedings of AAAI-98 (15th National AAAI Conference), 1998.
    • Improved Opponent Modeling in Poker
Aaron Davidson, Darse Billings, Jonathan Schaeffer, and Duane Szafron, Proceedings of the 2000 International Conference on Artificial Intelligence (ICAI'2000), pp 1467-1473, 2000.

Here is Nicholas Findler's classic 1977 poker paper: Studies in Machine Cognition using the Game of Poker

    Project 2: Speech Recognition

The background information necessary to complete this project can be found in the following article (only first 11 pages are actually required):

The above article is rather dense. A gentle introduction to the background required to understand the paper is given in the lecture notes, available here.
