Overview

*** PLEASE NOTE: ***
The first lecture in 2007 is Tuesday 4th of September.
Room F4, 14.15 - 16.00.
*******************

We will use the same text book as before (by Tom Mitchell), and it should be available in Tapir in due time before the start. It is highly recommended to read through the first two chapters before the first lecture!

The course gives an overview of methods that enable computers to automatically, or semi-automatically, learn problem solving knowledge. There is an emphasis on adaptive learning through experience, particularly the learning methods of case-based reasoning.

IT3704 is a graduate level course, intended for Ph.D. and M.Sc. (doktorgrad and hovedfag) students. It is assumed that the students have basic knowledge of artificial intelligence (AI) — including a general idea of classical inductive and deductive learning (i.e. version spaces, decision tree induction, classical explanation-based learning). Knowledge of java is an advantage.

The general part of the course is covered by the text book "Machine Learning", by Tom Mitchell.

The course is taught this autumn semester.
