10.5    Concluding Remarks

The quest for confidence has revealed both arguments in favor of Tema (many elements of Tema have been observed in practice or found in other approaches) and some weaknesses (Tema does not concern aspects like the influence of actor power in modeling, and there is little triangulation of results using interviews). Still, the purpose of the evaluation has not been to glorify neither the approach nor the research process. Tema is not advertised as snake oil it is not the solution to all problems perceived to exist in enterprise modeling. Tema is just as much a way of thinking as it is a solution to a problem.

A final reflection is that although the accomplished research project has been experienced to require a lot of resources and pose methodical challenges, it has provided insights about enterprise modeling practice that would not have been reached by other means (e.g., by a purely theoretical study).
