The first Data Prefetching Championship (DPC-1) will be held in Raleigh, North Carolina (USA) on Sunday 15th of February, in conjunction with the 15th International Symposium on High-Performance Computer Architecture.
DPC-1 is a competition for data prefetching algorithms, and very few from Europe made it to the final in Raleigh. Our PhD candidate Marius Grannæs (in photo) from the Computer Architecture and Design group will represent NTNU in this championship. His paper on prefetching algorithms got him to the final, and it will also become a part of his PhD thesis.
Each contestant has implemented prefetching algorithms on a common evaluation framework provided by the DPC organizing committee. The top contestants have been invited to present their work at the DPC-1 workshop. At the end of the workshop, a champion will be announced (based on performance results).
Marius Grannæs came in a honourable 4th place in the data prefetching championship. Marius thanks Stallo for squeezing the last bit of performance out of the algorithms. Stallo is one of the NOTUR supercomputer clusters in Norway.
