Three Students at IBM BSRE 2010

On 7th of July, Håkon Stavik Rønning, Tri M. Nguyen and Jørn Hegstad Tallaksen from the Department of Computer and Information Science (IDI) at NTNU went to participate in the IBM EMEA Best Student Recognition Event (BSRE) at IBM Germany.

The opening of the event at IBM’s Head Quarter in Ehningen was held by Martin Jetter, General Manager of IBM Germany, with a follow up presentation about IBM by Martin Maehler, Manager University Relations of IBM Germany.

The agenda was full of interesting presentations, demos and tours in the lab. Beside company presentations, the event had great focus on the Smarter Planet vision. A thought on what the next step is going to be on our way towards a smarter planet.

With so much interesting things on the agenda, there weren’t time for any longer breaks. The event agenda was set up to meet both groups of business and economic students, and computer science students. About 70 selected students from Europe, the Middle East and Africa attended the event.

Dinner was served at a restaurant in Boeblingen the first evening. TVs were all set up for the big football match between Germany and Spain. After a long day there were now time to chat and get to know each other better. Since all participants at the event had nearly the same interest and more likely different view and thoughts of things. There were room for discussions around the topics on the agenda and other related topics.

In the evening day two, dinner was served at a restaurant called Buddha Lounge. A very nice place decorated with various Buddha statues. Some key IBMers was present to answer questions. This was the last evening of the event, so after dinner some of the students went out to experience the nightlife of Stuttgart.

A contest about Smarter Campus 2020 was held on the last day of the event. All students were teamed up in total 12 teams. And within one and a half our all the teams had to created a presentation about our thoughts on a smarter campus in 2020. This was a practical exercise to the vision of a Smarter Planet, and to sum up these three days. Three interesting, inspirational and educational days had now come to an end. After lunch on Friday 9th of July, it was time for celebration and farewell.
