Chinese Outstanding PhD Students Abroad Award

Friday 13th of May, a representative from the Chinese embassy visited NTNU to present the Chinese Government Award for Outstanding PhD Students Abroad for 2010. From our department Shang Gao and Wei Wei won the award. Three students in Norway won this year, and all were from NTNU. 506 PhD students in the world won the 2010 award.

The three winners from NTNU were: Shang Gao and Wei Wei from our department, and Zhenghui Liu from the Department of Marine Technology. Each of the winners received USD 5,000 and a diploma.

The Chinese Government Award for Outstanding PhD Students Abroad is a prestigious national award in China. The award is a recognition of top Chinese PhD students across all fields of study in the world. It is an annual award from Chinese Government for outstanding Chinese graduate students who work abroad without receiving financial support from the Chinese government.

The awardees were selected based on their research achievements and academic merit after several rounds of judging by invited experts from their field in China as well as their host country.
