CHAT's message facilities
There are four kinds of messages in CHAT:
- User messages: These messages are sent between workspaces gener-
ated by users (
choosing Send from the Message menu).
- System notifications: These messages are generated by CHAT when a
something to a workspace, subsystem or a component. CHAT also detect if possi-
write/write update conflicts have risen, and warn the involving workspaces about this.
- Subscribe messages: Messages a user can receive if (s)he subscribe to
specified component or workspace (or both).
- Application messages: These messages are generated by CHAT used
use. Application messages can be used for reviewing components in several work-
synchronising several workspaces.
If you're involved in a huge project with many workspace and products, it would be
necessary to disable messages you are not interested in. This is done in the
Message Preferences window shown below:
The Message Preferences window allows you to enable/disable messages by dou-
on the. Message types shown in boldface are enabled, while message types shown
roman are disabled. The Message Preferences window let you also choose what to happen
a component in parent workspace is enabled. You can choose to only receive a notification
about the update component, a requester dialog to ask you if you want to update to the
new version of the component or to automatically update the component.
The Message Preferences dialog let you also choose what lock mode you should use.
