Title: Multiresolutional Representation of Digital Images

Abstract: The goal of this project is to examine the usefulness of multiresolutional representation of bitmapped digital images. A short theoretically orientated introduction will present the main idea of multiresolutional representation as well as the means of achieving such a representation. The rest of this report will deal with the implementation of a format for multiresolutional representation. The first part of the implementation will be a procedure able to take high-resolution image (e.g. a scan of a picture at 600 dots per inch) and transform it into a compressed multiresolution format. This part will mainly employ digital image processing techniques, i.e. for determining the lower resolution images and for compressing the resulting images. The second part of the implementation will be a procedure which takes a multiresolution image and displays an arbitrary part with almost arbitrary zooming (limited only by the resolution of input image and output device) from any direction and point of view. This part will mainly employ techniques from the field of computer graphics, i.e. texture mapping and interactive view-point manipulation. It will probably also use some sort of smoothing filter for blurring edges and improving output quality in states of extreme zooming. A fazit section will conclude this report with a short discussion on problems and possibilities arising from the use of multiresolutional representation of bitmapped digital images.

Title: Reconstruction of AFM images

Abstract: Clays are complex matrials, that are difficult to describe both theoretically and trough experiments. One experimental study of clay is perfermed by studying clay aggregates deposited on a surface. By performing the experiment for various phases we might be able to say something about the system before sedimentation. The sediments are studied using an AFM. The instrument scans the surface in a systematic fashion until it has passed over the entire sample. Quite often a fault in the equipment will give rise to fine, horizontal lines that are troublesome when performing a statistical analysis of the deposited particles. We would like to find a way of removing these lines and restoring the image.

Title: Multivariate Image Analysis

Abstract: Multivariate Image Analysis (MIA) is multivariate data analysis on images. Using PCA (also known as the Hotelling Transform), multivariate images are transformed from spectral images to principal images. MIA makes use of feature space which offers techniques like scoreplot inspection, MIA-space object selection, loading plot inspection a.o. MIA is a strong alternative to traditional classification and segmentation, which has been found useful in several application areas: Medicine, Forrest valuation, Satelite Image inspection a.o.

Title: Implementasjon av filter og masker

Abstract: Skal implementere og prøve ut ulike typer filter og masker i frekvensdomenet og "normale" bilder. Målet vil være å lage et bibliotek i c++ som gjør det enkelt å lage nye filter og masker og deretter bruke disse på ulike bilder (både gråtoner og farger). Implementasjon av 2D FFT vil være en del av prosjektet.
